Sources report the U.S. EPA plans to exclude existing natural gas power plants from its proposed carbon regulations to be finalized in April. The EPA plans to finalize standards this spring to cut carbon dioxide emissions from existing coal and new gas-fired power plants. IBR Registration 02/29/2024

On February 22, the NERC Board approved IBR Registrations as Category 2 in both GO and GOP with the decision submitted to FERC for approval in March. NERC also posted a Quick Reference Guide: IBR Registration Initiative, and next steps which would consist of:

    • Phase 2: May 2024 – May 2025 Identify Category 2 GO and GOP IBR candidates along education and outreach.
    • Phase 3: May 2025 – May 2026 Complete registration of Category 2 GO and GOPs and continue education and outreach.
