Electric-Gas Working Group and PRC-024 Changes
NERC Electric-Gas Working Group (EGWG)
The NERC Planning Committee Electric-Gas working Group (EGWG) held an introductory call on April 4th. During the call, it was agreed the goal of the group would be to write a Reliability Guideline that presents a reasonably broad set of considerations to Planning Coordinators and Transmission Planners for effectively assessing system performance and reliability in the event of a major fuel supply disruption. The considerations will include:
- Regional factors, market constructs, financial landscapes, and Federal/State/Provincial regulations that play a role in fuel infrastructure, supply, and delivery
- Recommendations for collecting the appropriate level of data from the proper sources
- Examples of BPS Planning studies that exhibit good practices regarding the formation of realistic fuel disruption scenarios and the associated reliability risk analysis
Also note that in 2017, WECC commissioned Wood Mackenzie to complete a study on the relationship between the natural gas system and electric generation in the Western Interconnection. A recommendation from the study was to increase communication between both sectors. As a next step to the study, WECC will host a Gas–Electric Interface Webinar Forum from 9:00–11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.

Standards Announcement: Project 2018-04 Modifications to PRC-024-2
The standard drafting team is holding an Industry Webinar 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Eastern, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 to review the modifications in proposed PRC-024-3. A 45-day Formal Comment Period is open through May 31, 2019 with Ballot Pools Forming through May 16, 2019.
