• Based on NERC’s Inverter-Based Resource Strategy, NERC is attempting to identify and address risks associated with inverter-based resources (IBRs). In addition, FERC issued two orders with directives to NERC regarding IBRs: (1) an order directing NERC to identify and register owners and operators of currently unregistered bulk power system-connected IBRs; and (2) Order No. 901 directing the development of Reliability Standards addressing multiple aspects of IBR planning. NERC is executing a FERC-approved IBR Registration work plan and an Order No. 901 Work Plan to achieve these directives within the prescribed timeframes.

 

• NERC’s IBR Registration Initiative Q1 2025 Update shows progress made, key activities in Legal, Registration, Standards, Stakeholder Outreach, and E-ISAC Engagements, and provides available resources. • NERC has posted slides and recording from the Project 2024-01– Rules of Procedure Definitions Alignment (Generator Owner and Generator Operator) Industry Webinar.

 

• NAGF will submit comments for 2024-01 Rules of Procedure Definitions Alignment (GO and GOP) this week on Wednesday, the 7^th of May. The information that we will comment on can be found here. 2024-01 Rules of Procedure Definitions Alignment (GO and GOP)| Draft 1. Members are encouraged to send any feedback reference this project to jmerlo@generatorfoum.net or (404) 387-5249, by the end of the business day on Tuesday the 6^th. We will have it to the Advisory committee first thing Wednesday morning for approval and posting before the end of that day. • Save the Date: NERC Industry Engagement Workshop for FERC Order 901, Milestone 3 June 3-5, 2025

The workshop will focus on discussing industry comments regarding the following projects:

• Project 2020-06– Verifications of Models and Data for Generators
• Project 2021-01– System Model Validation with Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs)
• Project 2022-02– Uniform Modeling Framework for IBRs

The primary objective of the workshop will be to explore the key commonalities identified in the industry comments received during the balloting period, as well as questions raised during outreach leading up to the workshop. Breakout sessions will provide opportunities for in-depth discussions on the relevant standards and to integrate industry comments into these standards in pursuit of consensus. Please note that breakout sessions will only be open to in-person attendees.
